You're the BEST around

My old college friend Boris noticed via the ole Facenovel that I'm a bit of a wing Nut, and proudly posted photos of his most recent wingventure at The Stalking Horse. This neighborhood is not usually my cup of tea, but I think I'll need to plan an outing there just because the wings must be good enough for someone to consume 21 of them.

That's right. Graphic Designer, UMBC Alum, and my friend, Boris Kan, ate 21 wings AND THEN made me a little photo shout-out, in a Facebook album.

(if you piece it together, it reads "I ATE 21 WINGS" in WING BONES OMG OMG OMG)

Boris Kan is my new hero.

I Found a Chicken Wing on the Street!

I found a chicken wing in the streets of Baltimore. It looked lonely. A lonely chicken wing is sadder than an abandoned puppy. Little chicken wing, looking kinda sad and lonely, just like me. No one seems to care. They just walk away and leave you sitting there, all alone on 36th Street.

Northampton Wangs and Gouda-dillas

I recently went on a work trip to Northampton, Massachusetts, and found in the little town this awesome place called The Dirty Truth. A little hip favorite for many locals, The Dirty Truth also had an impressive array of taps

and a killer menu. To reward ourselves for a busy weekend and to celebrate our long-weekend getaway together, my travel companion and I decided to treat ourselves to wings (below), a quesadilla, and some spinach dip. First, the wings:

Pretty standard, but piping hot and juicy. I don't think the sauce was extraordinary or anything, but they get extra points for offering carrots AND celery, and extra chunky bleu cheese.

I wish I had a picture of the quesadillas, because they were definitely a plate that has me wanting to change everything I think about melted cheese and tortillas. First, they were made with braised short rib. Then, they included white beans and sweet potatoes. (I realize that this is probably getting a little artsy for you.) And finally, the melted cheese was a nice, sharp, creamy GOUDA.

GOUDA. just wrap your wing-loving brain around that for a second. GOUDA QUESADILLA. HEAVEN QUESADILLA.

If I were a native of the town, I'm sure I'd eventually become a regular at The Dirty Truth, if only to sample their entire menu. Wings: 7; Gouda-dillas, 9.5.

Bill Bateman's Bistro

Inspired by the new blog and further encouraged by my dieting wife’s absence, I stopped at Bill Bateman’s Bistro in Towson for some carry-out wings last night. Bateman’s will occasionally show up on best of Baltimore lists for their wings—plus it’s a short drive from my house.

I chose the barbeque flavor and only waited about 10 minutes for my order. When I got home, I was pleasantly surprised that they were all drumstick type wings. I hadn’t even taken a bite and was already being smiled upon by the Wing Gods (Hermes and Iris).

On scales of both meatiness and flavor I give them an eight. This is my fourth trip to Bateman’s and this is the best result I’ve gotten, but they’ve never been below a seven for flavor or a five for meatiness.

One point about the venue. Bill Bateman’s is a sport-oriented establishment. Wall-to-wall TVs tuned to ESPN through ESPN8 (“The Ocho”). I happen to enjoy college and professional sports, but this place would definitely turn off someone who is not so inclined.

My dog was mad he didn’t get any.
